A topic which remains to be a matter of great debate, children education is always on the renewing mode with the possibility of the introduction of a new practice almost on a daily basis. However, a shift of focus from the older traditional way of giving facts as learning materials for children have now given way to a more interactive environment where the child is encouraged to learn as part of a group. In a modern class, one can see children in a class, organized in small group, discussing its own tasks, a sign of being wholly responsible for its own assignments. The teacher can be seen at the center of the class, monitoring and supervising the class, in an attempt to maintain a balanced learning environment.
Conflicting studies on children education
There are some researchers who claim that children’s capabilities find fulfillment in an unsupervised, unrestricted environment. But some others contradict it saying that every aspect of learning differs from the others and a systematic process has to be in place to ensure maximum learning environment. They seem to claim that the learning of languages require that the children are allowed to experience certain situations. However, the research is still on for a standardized approach which would be ideal for the over-all growth of children.
Constructivist approach, the widely accepted trend of the time
The authorized research in this area in the US has given way to a new mode of teaching called “constructivist approach” where children are encouraged to learn in a most diverse group with varying learning capabilities. Even adults are allowed to enter into this group so that the child can see different approaches to learning and accept the one which one sees ideal for him/her. Whatever is the mode of teaching, one should understand that children’s education starts at home and parents are expected to be up-to-date with this regard to make sure that each child is placed in a perfect learning environment.
