Most of the High school graduates often find it difficult to cope up with the next stage of their education. They are found not fully prepared to enter the college life by the researchers at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Arizona’s center for the Study of Higher Education.
Unprepared High school graduates
When the students are in the high school, they do not follow the preparatory precautions or do not care to take enough career or educational courses that will help them to pave a way towards the higher studies. They realized this lack of responsibility only when they face the dire circumstances while joining the colleges. Not only in the college admissions but also in the outer world; these students find it tough to get a job in the current trend without a good grade from the schools as well. They are trapped in an unidentifiable career curriculum and fail to enroll for the college. Whatever they have learnt in the schools are only the general matters but there is no proper guidance or preparation for the higher studies and jobs. These groups of High school graduates find it difficult to earn a degree from the college usually.
High school graduates
The High school graduates are categorized in three levels by the researchers.
- 1. Students with college preparatory track which consist of the one-third of the entire student community.
- 2. Students who have opted career and technical education programs as a means to help themselves prepare for the post graduation and this consist of one-fourth of the student population.
- 3. A large section of the students which is more than 40 percent of the high school students are not prepared for college or occupational trainings.
- It is a must that the High school graduates pick the right courses or aids that will help them go through the higher studies successfully or to get a good job.
