If you are a resident of the US, the question how to be a teacher would definitely meet with varying answers with varying certification requirements from different States in the nation. Most of the States however, may require that you pass the State’s certifying exam and gain real-life experience under a certified teacher. And before you are authorized to teach in public schools in the US, it is a must that you are licensed by the State of your residence. This can only be done upon the completion of all the other requirements. You can then submit an application requesting for a license which would be reviewed by a special licensing authority. If it passes the test, you would be given a certification authorizing you to enter into the job market as a fully trained and competent teacher. A State license is not a must for private school. But, having the license is definitely an added advantage.

Upon being certified as a competent teacher, you can join any organization of professional teachers. Contact any well-experienced teacher and try to understand the challenges you may face if you decide to be a teacher. After being hired, the school may require that you undergo continuous training programs and other related workshops to acquaint you with the trends of the field.

Being a good teacher is much more than getting a degree and being certified as a teacher. You would have to be willing to spend extra time with the students. You should understand each student and should be able to prepare a teaching plan which is capable of assisting students with different requirements. Furthermore, an attempt has to be made to ensure that bright students are not ignored in an attempt to standardize your lesson plan.

Getting into a career as a teacher is just a beginning. However, the motivation to know how to be a teacher who motivates and inspires students requires your consistent efforts and total commitment.
