Subjects for a Secondary School Teacher

The secondary school teacher should know the subjects which are being taught in secondary school. It is not necessary for him to master all those subjects. Nevertheless, it is important that he focuses on at least one. The one that he specializes in is the topic that he should teach. For example, teachers who are excellent in language arts should know at least three subtopics. They should be able to tell what the different types of literature are. Students have been introduced to those types when they were in middle school. In secondary institutions, they will learn more about those things, and they might be even encouraged to try writing their own literary works. That is where advanced writing and composition comes in.

    Secondary School Teacher for Math

In math, the following are the areas that should be covered. Of course, the most important one is algebra. It involves the solving for different types of variables using equations and formulas. The things that the students will learn in algebra are the things that they could apply in the other areas. Those other topics are geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. In some states and countries, statistics are also being prioritized. However, there are some schools which give the option for students to choose different electives. For example, they could only take statistics or calculus if they plan to pursue mathematical, engineering, or business careers.

    Secondary School Teacher for Science

Teachers who plan to teach in secondary schools should also know how to deal with the different branches in science. Since science has already been introduced as early as middle school, the subjects that should be taken in secondary institutions should be advanced. Biology, chemistry, and physics are all advanced topics that teachers should have knowledge of. Since there are only a few secondary school teachers, the demand for them is very high.

Stanley, secondary school teachers do major in a specific subject such as English, mathematics, social studies and so forth. They do need to know a tremendous amount of subject matter within their areas. Often, the subjects overlap. For example, there is no way to teach English literature without knowing its place in English history, or American literature within American history.

Well this is a pretty basic post. Of course they should pick one subject to focus on and know various aspects of that subject. General education credits in college will ensure the teacher has some knowledge of subjects taught by other teachers as well.

Advanced writing and composition skills come into play in just about every discipline. No matter what a teacher majors in, he or she must be able to write well. It's all about general literacy on the secondary level.

Catherine is correct. All teachers are trained in writing skills and reading throughout their career. If a student can't read, he can't do math or science and so on. One assumes that when students get to the secondary level, they can read and write well enough to do well in your class. If you are a math teacher, then that is where you major concentration has to be. If a student is identified as a "slow" learner then I hope your school has accomodations for him/her. As a math teacher, it is not my job to teach reading.
