How old are your school computers?

Ours are basically 7+ years old as well as our servers. Today, our administrator, talked to me about looking into getting on a MAC wave with having them leased. I'm not happy with this decision (Tech. coordinator) Thiings have really been on the weird side for the past nine weeks.

My school supplied computer is a Compaq. The hard drive was replaced about 3 years ago, but the rest of it has to be about 12-15 years old. Seriously.
It works fine, though I don't use it much, unless the students are using my laptop for some tech building project, then I might enter grades on the pc.

We just got a brand new computer lab with the big flat screens (mac). Before that our newest computer was at least 7 years old.

I feel sorry for teachers and system administrators especially in public schools. Most other sections of the public sector get new computers regularly. Every other profession has the latest PCs or MACs available to them. It seems that throughout the world teachers are not provided with the appropriate tools to work with the most tech savvy demographic of society - high school kids.

Is there any particular reason for this?

I can't speak for Pogo, but in our case (and I suspect in MANY cases) is lack of funds/

We have just updated our entire LEA to windows 9 and office 10. In order to do that, they had to put new memory in all our computers. Now if we just had processors to match, we would be in business. Technology is moving at an alarming rate. I see it taking the place of books in the near future, don't you?

Our computers are really old, but there is a reason for this. We have an old building that was built during the 1950s. It's been pieced together over the years. They are building a new state-of-the-art facility we'll all move into during the fall of 2012, so new technology monies have been postponed until we move into the new facility.

Wow, I can not believe some of your computers are still running. My personal laptop is two years old and threatening to die on me. The computers at my school are not new, but they are not too old, either.

The library in our town just had a renovation, and donated a bunch of computers to my school. We also recieved some newer computers from the local college. The computers are pretty nice and I like the flat screen. Thank goodness for hand me downs!
