That's a great idea!I like the golden paintbrush and NOTEworthy. Have you come up with anything yet? Hmm.... I was thinking - Maybe if you had an old mouse. You could have the "Mouse Master" award, or.. the Top Tech award...

I teach computer skills at the elementary level. The art teacher gives out the Golden Brush Award to the class that earns it each week. It is earned by behaving and cooperating in class. She has a paint brush that is painted gold, with a pretty ribbon tied onto it. The winning class is annouced during Friday annoucements. They keep the brush in their classroom for the following week.
I'd like to do the same, but am coming up blank on a good idea. The megabyte award is about as creative as I can get right now. Do any of you have a good idea or thoughts  that I can use? I have extra CDs and floppy discs that I could use, but just can't come up with anything that would have the same impact as the "GOLDEN BRUSH AWARD."
By the way...the music teacher does the NOTEWorthy Class of the week.
Thanks!

"Those who believe it cannot be done need to get out of the way of those who are doing it."
Do you use the web at all? You could borrow from an internet site--blue web'n ( kind of a play on blue ribbon, first prize idea) I like the idea of a Mighty Mouse award too--elementary kids might get a kick out of have the "Mighty Mouse" in their classroom!
How about the golden mouse award and spray paint an old broken mouse gold. You could even add wiggle eyes and felt ears. I had also thought about giving a golden mouse award to teachers who tried something new.
I am not a teacher - I am an awakener (Robert Frost)
Does your school have a web site? Could you gesign a simple web page that you can up date with the best classes name , class photo, description of their work.
Photos might not be allowed.
Our school has a section that is pass word protected .
Best of luck.
I am sure you will come up with something.
What a great idea! I wish I'd of thought of it the three years I was computer teacher at a primary school ....
How about Golden Keyboard Award (spray paint an old keyboard gold), or ... The Keyboard Kings ... make a crown of gold foil, decorate with a picture of a keyboard with jewel-colored keys. ... or if you have old keycaps around from an old keyboard, color them like jewels and glue on to the crown (more work than just painting a keyboard).
Mega Bytes would work ... as would .. Boss Bytes ... Big Bytes ... Best Bytes ... Brass Byte Award... Golden Byte Award
How about Princely Processors? Priceless Processors?
Computer Coaches? Barons of Bytes? Bytes of the Week?
Barons of Bytes could be a mobile to hang from the classroom ceiling connectors ... of CD spray painted, then paste a picture of a fab rock star on each, coat with high-gloss sealer ... hang on mobile, and let the class enjoy it in their class all week.
Hmmmm..... a thought that may or may not work for you. Schedule an open block of time weekly, and the class who earned the award gets that time for free time in the lab as a reward ...
Oh, do you have kids who abuse the printer? You could give out an
Inky Fink Certificate ....
Again, those weekly awards for the "specials" teachers who see all the classes in the school every week, sound like a great idea I'll be sure to pass on. Thanks,
Anne![]()

Geekswife. There are just as many disadvantages for kids learning to use puters. You know, stuff like they need not need to develop a human memory. That is very sad, but very true.
Now, you have piqued my interest. As abhorrant as a pizza may be, I will happily donate enough pizza to feed your little ones. You set the competition.

Johnh. Read your post to this discussion and am very confused by your comment that kids learning computers are at a disadvantage in learning memory skills. :? Kids need memory skills and all 'round good cognitive skills in order to use computers.
Yes, some skills change because kids are using computers. There is less need for rote memory and much more need for problem solving skills. Most educators put a higher priority on learning the problem solving skills over rote memory.
Instructional software has a major plus over live teaching because it can be repeated as often as neccesary. Good instructional software can utilize multi-modal learning styles and slow/disabled learners can be given a greater amount of individualization.![]()
