    Northcentral University Online

    Greetings,

I've been planning for my Doctorate of Education. Like all other Educators with families I wish there were an additional 12 hours in a day. The nearest Ed.D program that offers what I need is 50 Miles away and the through traffic is HORRIBLE! I've been researching and found a few Online Universities. Walden University, University of Phoenix, Capella and Northcentral University are the current crop that look interesting.

I've been leaning towards NCU because they are 100% online and affordable.

Does anyone here have experience with this Institution? What are some of your opinions on Online Doctorate Programs?

    Thanks
    Think!

Hi, Mr. One of the regulars here actually instructs for Walden, and I know she would recommend it. I have a personal bias against UofP, mostly because they don't believe in the power and reality of an online community. I looked at Argosy once, but they were WAY too High Pressure (sales-wise).

Keep checking back-- this forum doesn't get tonnes of traffic, but eventually....

And welcome! AND-- let me know if you find those extra 12 hours.
Some come to the Fountain of Knowledge to drink....others just to gargle....

I have about half my doctorate completed at NCU. I LOVE it but it's not for everyone. It's totally indpendent study, by yourself with your professor as a mentor, go at your own pace (within the 3 month time limit per course), and WRITE WRITE WRITE.

All of which I loved. I finished each of my courses in four weeks and then waited another 2-3 months to sign up for another course. I wasn't in a hurry so 2-3 courses a year was fine with me and plus I was paying out of my pocket as I went along so 2-3 courses a year was about all I could afford.

Then I quit that and got a graduate degree in Criminal Justice. I'm two courses and a thesis away from my second masters and I'm thinking that since I only needed 6 courses that I'm just going to let that go too.

Right now I am teaching full time online and have plenty of work and plenty of subjects to teach and after taking courses for nearly four years, I've had enough. I'm just weary. I want to teach and have my free time back

Right now I'm teaching two graduate Communications courses at Walden University in the MS in Nursing program (not a nurse here just teaching the Communications course); two undergraduate Communications courses for Strayer Unversity, two Criminal Justice courses for Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield MO (and am writing a third course that I'll also teach next semester); one online student orientation course for Rasmussen College in MO; and I may have another mini-course in communications starting for another college in Nov.

For January, I already have 8 courses scheduled and possibly 2-3 more may pan out.

My workday averages to about 5 hours (some days more and some days fewer) and now that I'm not taking classes, I'm really enjoying my free time again.

Go for NCU if you can stick to a schedule and do the work on your own and you like to research and write. If not, go to Walden and you'll be in a lock-step discussion/paper every week with everyone else in your class. Some people need that and Walden's program is outstanding. It's just not the way I like to learn. Everyone I know who has been or is at Walden and all those who have been and are at NCU love the programs. It all depends on how you like to learn.

    Good luck
    Leslie
