Oh well-- since we are talking about them, who else uses an online gradebook? I test-drove "TeacherEase" this year--I could say the same things about it that Martha said about hers....Any others?

A fellow teacher recommended that I sign up for www.Gradeweb.com after receiving wonderful feedback from her students and their parents. It's a terrific site that helps me manage my grades online, create reports and keep in touch with my students and parents (they can log in to check their grades, find missed homework, get class notes, email me, etc). I can also create an interactive teacher web site that my students love! It's so easy to use, the customer service is terrific, and it's affordable for any teacher ($40/year)! I'm definitely signing up again next year.

The original post reads like an advertisement - you think?
But, since you asked, Lisa, our school uses PowerGrade. The parents love it. I dislike it intensley. I do not feel that it is teacher friendly AT ALL! However, we can make it do what we want it to do if we are willing to pay $40 per hour for them to "fix" it for us. SIGH!

I used Teacherease for a bit last year. I was good overall, but I found the reports a bit cumbersome. I also gave the open source moodle a shot. After reading these posts, I signed up for Gradeweb and it looks pretty cool. I'll test it in summer school since it's free to try it, but I already like how it has the look and feel of a fun classroom site. It looks like I can generate better reports than I did in Teacherease, but I don't have any grades in yet to test it out.
I'll post later when I have more experience with Gradeweb.
Thanks, Martha!

We use blackbaud -- which is a big fancy management program that does every thing the school supposedly needs -- but it is difficult for the teacher and the parent . . .

We use GradeSpeed, it is only for grades & attendance. We can print out progress reports and parent also have access to their child's grades.
It's easy to use, I can't think of any problems I've had with it.
Webpages, email and the like are done separately. The district provides us with an email account. Out campus webmaster has made webpages for each of us. They are very basic, essentially they are databases that we can fill in with our lesson plans.

Reading Martha's post and the way it was worded, and the fact that this is her very first post, it seemed to me that this was an advertisement for her product. Then when Havery chimed in (also a first post) it confirmed my original assessment.
Just curious: Is there a policy about advertising on TF?
