What about united streaming from Discovery Education?

    Hi all:

Can anyone tell me about this unitedstreaming media from Discovery Education?

I'm thinking about it for K-12 system.

Any user experiences, good, neutral, or bad greatly appreciated.

I absolutely love United Streaming. You can get a trial version to see all the benefits of it. Our school has been using it for two years. Because it is in our REMC fees, the kids have a password and have access to it also. What is nice is that sections can be downloaded if you do not want the entire movie. I down load the clips from differnt movies for the unit i am teaching and put them in a folder. Very difficult to do with video tapes. I use this day in History in my morning powerpoint, too.

My school just got a one month trial & I've down loaded a lot of decent video. I just used parts of Bill Nye Greatest Discoveries in Chemistry today in class. You can download material and use it indefinitely. Our system downloads overnight so you have to anticipate use and be sure to download ahead of time. We had so many videos requested to download last Friday & over the weekend that it took a few days to accomplish all the requests. But now we have them to use anytime. I wanted to use a 15 min clip earlier in the week but found it was still in the que to be downloaded. I was able to go to the site and stream it live in class ( until our server decided to do the online attendence reports to the state and slowed things to a crawl)

Overall feeling: I hope we subscribe next year. There is so much good content available. Our downloading traffic jam came from too many people trying to get as much video as possible before the end of the trial period. Normal traffic this week has been able to keep up with demand.
Other good points: relatively cheap, study guides and blackline worksheets available for most video

    Thanks Ari

    Thanks Ari.

Sounds like we should all check this out.

Do you know if they have an online community that would help me to get started and share ways to use this new technology?

They have excellent support staff that will help you with ways of using their materials. You will also receive a monthly newletter highlighting new features and new releases.

Ari: I believe that legally you can use the video only for as long as you have the supscription. At least that is what we were told.

    Is there a Users Group?

You all are being very helpful, and I greatly appreciate it.

Do you know if there is a users group or something for this product? It sounds to me like teachers could help each other swap tricks on how to use it.
