How do I start my story? Leads?

Are there any websites that suggest great sentence starters / leads for writing instead of the typical " Once Upon a Time " or " One Day"?

    Thanks.

The best way to write a lead is to study leads. Go to the library (or look through books you own) and read 100 leads (the first sentence or two). Analyze what you "notice" about the leads. Determine the critical attributes of the leads, categorize them, and then "try out" the different types of leads. Write 10 or more leads for your story and choose your best one. I have one story that I've changed the lead about 15 times and I'm still not satisfied! Leads are important. They grab the reader's attention and draw them into the piece. A bad lead could lead to an unread story.

This thread reminded me... Is wag (I think it was wag??) still doing the daily topics for each month and day? I quite liked them for "do now's" when my brain was fried.

I do Grammar with A GIggle, but I used to used Jim Waynes Writing Prompts. He used to post them here.

http://teachers.net/gazette/DEC08/wayne/. However, this particular board is elementary and early childhood, so they would be too difficult for younger children.
