paper pattern for a log cabin

My class went to George Ranch last Friday. George Ranch is a site that has all sorts of old buildings on it - sharecropper shacks, a Victorian house, an 1836 log cabin etc. There are real life cowboys on the ranch who teach kids all sorts of interesting activities. There are also people dressed in 19th century period clothing who talk to students about carding wool and building houses.

The students spent this morning's language arts class writing a draft about their field trip. I thought about what the students could do when they finish the editing/revising/proofreading stage and complete a final copy.

I did some surfing and found this neat little site.

If you follow this link you can download a paper pattern to build a model log cabin. There is also a model cabin floor plan - which is useful for math since it's broken into square feet. There are even accompanying lesson plans.

    Anyway, here's the site:

    George Ranch

I remember passing the signs to George Ranch many times as a kid. I don't think I ever visited though. That was the time when it was too expensive to send us on field trips.

We have some pioneer sites here kids can visit too. I'll pass this web site along to the fourth grade teachers. They can use it for their objectives. Thanks!!!!
