If you are still looking for classes to exchange with-- I teach ELD at a middle school. They are all beginning level of English and it would be fun for them to have a real reader at the end of the post card. We are in Santa Barbara County.
I teach 4th grade and am interested in doing a postcard exchange within the cities of California, since California is our major area of focus in social studies, and it ties into our Open Court curriculum (Unit 5: Communication), as well as writing. The project would involve sending a postcard from your CITY including some information on the region you live in, some facts on a major historical landmark in your area, and if possible the longitude and latitude of your city. My plan is to have the kids find the different locations by longitude and latitude) on a large scale map of California and put a marker for every post card we receive, and in return send a postcard back with our information. Other classes would do the same or something similiar with their postcards. I was also thinking of possible setting up a blog for the interested classes to further tie in our OCR communication unit. I am looking for interested classes (in various parts of the state) to make this work. Please reply back to this post or e-mail me at missdiaz81yahoo.com if you are interested.
By the way my school is located in southern CA in the city of San Pedro.
