    similies lesson

i will be doing a lesson on similies for my 2nd grade class... does anyone know a good book that uses a lot of similies that i can read to the students so they can start getting ideas of examples of similies?
    thanks

    Not specifically for 2nd graders.

I have a 6th grader reading Roald Dahl's "BFG." I asked her to find metaphors, and she came back and said she could only find similies. We browsed through it together, and sure enough, it is full of them.

Unless you're looking for a novel, it doesn't really fit 2nd grade, though.

Quick as a Cricket by (I think) Audrey Woods. The whole book is a series of similes.

I just did this with pre-k

We learned Mary Had A Little Lamb and used the line "It's fleece was white as snow." The children changed the color then changed snow to something that would be the other color. We did this as a group with a chart first then I had them each draw a lamb in their choice of color and tell me what it was so I could write it for them. Some of them were the same as the ones we did as a group while others were quite original. Here are some of the ones I remember:

    black as ink
    pink as bubble gum
    red as an apple
    black as coffee
    purple as grapes

You get the idea. BTW, I have a very bright group of children in my pre-k class this year.
