    tuition for transfer students

    Our school started charging tuition for transfers this year. Which doesn't bother me, except my children are transfers. So as a teacher, I am having to pay for my children to attend my school. I was curious about other schools charging tuition for transfers and if employees had to pay or at least got a discount.

    Where are you at? In the U.S., or elsewhere? I'm more than curious about public schools charging tuition for transfers. I've never heard of it before. Having worked at "schools of choice" in my district for many years, in some tight years our district has limited transfers from out of district, or cut bussing and asked parents to transport their own kids. We currently have no busses except for special ed; that's about 850 families doing drop-off and pick-up every day. But I've never, ever heard of public schools charging "tuition."

    transfer fee

    I'm in a small community in the Texas panhandle. Because of buget cuts, and the state cutting money because we were out of compliance for transfers (accepting too many transfers) the transfers were charged a fee. I'm in a "choice" school district. We perform well in academics and sports. I just felt since I'm an employee that I should get a break.
    The transfers do provide their own transportation at least up to the school district line.
