    Best Vendors for Library Books

Would like to hear from people who are using one vendor or exclusive contracts with a certain vendor. Who is it? What do they do for you? Do you get free services (processing, shipping?) Is anyone using a McNaughton program in schools?

This is my first year as a school librarian, and I have used several vendors. Two called me by phone and said they'd send me a box of books to preview, and I kept several of both of their boxes. Librarian's Express and Gumdrop books- Gumdrop's were very expensive, but they have a lot of comprehensive, yet easy to read, non-fiction, like on the Holocaust, Arab World, Medieval world, and these are areas my collection is weak on. Booksource is one that I've just put in an order with. they have a zillion ya and other recommended fiction, and also non-fiction. These companies generally have free shipping and returns, and charge less than a dollar per set of catologing and processing materials per book, if that is something you need. Brodart is a huge jobber, but I haven't ordered from them as yet.
    Hope this helps,

I use Baker and Taylor and Follet!
Both have been real good to me.
Our district belongs to a buyers group so we get a good discount with Baker and taylor... So you might want to talk to your head librarian or District treasurer to see if your district has any contracts.
Up to 43% off on hardbound books and 35% for paperbacks.
Follet has a set discount for all libraries.

Here is the follet homepage... I contacted the company for a local rep... that is great for help..... also, I found that Follet has a better fill ratio than B&T since they cater to libraries.

Here is for Baker and Taylor

I use the ordering system of both and then fax the orders to them...
I have two accounts with B&T --- one for the board money and one for my PTO account... that way it doesn't get crazy in keeping track of the monies..
    Good luck.

    preferred vendors

I have been using Bound to Stay Bound Books for the past 12 years. Their selection is good, their service is great, and their books are guaranteed forever! In an elementary school of 670 students and an average daily circulation of 375+ books I need better than average bindings. When BTSB does not have a title I want, my next preference is Follett. Free Marc records, barcodes and shipping with both.

    Best Vendors

For the past seven years, all NVUSD elementary and most middle schools have ordered exclusively from Follett. The fill rate and customer service has been more than satisfactory. At the same time, TitleWave is an excellent resource for collection development. Follett also does NOT charge any shipping and, even better, will email MARC records!

NVUSD is committed to Lexiling. When ordering from Follett, it is standard District processing policy to have the Lexile level inserted in the 521 tag........or, according to the site, the RC or AR level in the 526 tag...free, of course!
