Does anyone know the name of the book?

It was popular in the 70's and early 80's. It looked like a kids book, but was about a caterpillar... it had all the caterpillars climbing over eachother trying to reach the top. This caterpillar choose not to step on others to reach the top and turned into a chrysalis, and when he emerged he flew higher than all of those who stepped on others to get to the top.

I need it! But don't remember the name... might have been something about "the top" ??

    Thanks!

Errrrr ... could it have been the Presidential election between Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford? Former President Nixon became a moth instead of a pretty buttefly. (I am not a crook!)

I'm not familar with this story but found an on-line story that seems to match the plot you outlined.

    What about, "The Flying Caterpillar?"

I don;t know that one, but my favorite book when I was litle was "TGhe VEry Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. He did "The Bad Tempered Lady bird" too. His new one, "The noisy cricket" makes a chirping noise when you get to the last page.

Hungry caterpillar helps me to count (even now... Hee hee)
I still "see" the bad tempered ladybird when I look at my watch.

    Love Eric Carle

"Oooohhhh, oooohhhh, I know!" shouted David as he bounced in his seat.

What about, "Reagan's Victory: The Presidential Election of 1980 And the Rise of the Right?" In this book, the caterpillar who was an actor, became President of the United States after crawling over all of the other Republican caterpillar candidates: John Anderson, Howard Baker, George Bush, John Connally, Phil Crane, and Bob Dole.
