museums working with libraries and schools

Please brainstorm with me: How can museums (museum educators) work with schools (teachers) and libraries (librarians) to create a trilogy of pedagogical fun and available resources and programming for their students using the standards as guidelines? Tell me about what you have been involved with? Funding resources if nessesary?

I'm certain this conversation has taken place on this listserv. You might get some ideas that you can share with TeacherFocus.

    Just a thought.

    NGA fellowships

The National Gallery of Art (Smithsonian) has annual summer sessions in Washington on teaching and using Art to teach History. Librarians would be excellent members of the teams who go. check it out at http://www.nga.gov

It seems to me that the Texas Museum of Culture in San Antonio, used to sent out cultural kits to various schools. I vaguely recall our school librarian circulating these kits among the 4th grade classes that studied Texas history. The kit was supplemented with books from the school library. The 4th grade teachers staggered their social studies periods so that the kit and the library books were in a different class each period. The classroom teachers were responsible for the instruction of research.
