    Not even for a sticker?

I was not prepared for how different classes can be, I thought 6th grade was 6th grade and they would all be about the same….wrong! The class I taught last year was sooooo different they were motivated, talkative, smart, and a little funny. This years kids are very reserved, they don’t even seam to like stickers (what kind of kids don't like stickers? LOL)!

They don't like STICKERS? Even my 12th graders liked stickers! I used to put them on thier papers, and they'd ask me not to press them down so hard so they could peel them off and put them on other stuff.

I've had two classes of 6th graders in my career. One about five years ago, and one this year. The first group was just a little shorter and more eager to learn than my 7th & 8th graders, but there wasn't much difference.

This year? Whoo-weee!! What a crew! They have whined, tattled, poked, prodded, talked, goofed off. . .

    AARGH!!!

I have 2 7th grade classes this year and I'm using stickers as an
individual incentive. I have "star charts". At the end of each session
with me, whether it be 45 min. or 90 min. they get a star. If they can get
5 stars by friday they get a reward. I will have them place their stars on
    the chart.

I also have a whole class rewards system.

I have a fishbowl for each class and marbles. After every period they have the opportunity to earn a marble, as a class. When the bowl is full
the class gets a reward. (A trip, a party, whatever will work for your
    kids.)

Sometimes I walk around with stickers during group work. The groups that are working well get stickers the ones that aren't don't.

Maybe you should have offered them a Klondike Bar. Because...hey...what would YOU do for a Klondike Bar?!
