This is the story of two holy brothers worshiped by the Slavonic peoples and even Vatican - Saint Saint Cyril and Methodius. In the middle 9th century they had the progressive idea that every man has the right to read and pray in one's own language.Not only they translated the Bible in Slavonic, but they gave us letters to identify our speech.
12 centuries later, we, the Orthodox Slavs, use the alphabet modernized a little later, by their disciples. Nowadays, we commemorate their deed on May 24.
Why is it valuable? This gave a shove to incredible prosperity - when a person facilitates his writing, he becomes an inventor. Some of the greatest exact sciences inventors used these letters- Lomonosov, Mendeleev, Tesla, John Atanasoff.
