When two beagles ran away from home (or were dropped) at our school, they knew what they were doing. We've got a bunch of animal lovers at our school, so we've got a beagle rescue mission in progress. We knew the pound would kill them immediately since they were sick, and with the shape they're in they don't need to go back where they came from . . . and nobody will adopt them in their current state.
So . . . we're taking care of them the best we can. One of my co-workers worked in a vet's office for years, and she's taken them on as her project. I've always had a soft spot for dogs anyway, so I'm right there with her. They went from sleeping curled up in the grass clippings in the back of the school to sleeping in a carrier. They have food & water bowls and a few treats. They're also getting medicine--flea/tick, steroids, antibiotics, and wormer, and either the vet or a groomer is coming tomorrow/next day to clip the horribly overgrown toenails.
Poor babies were pitiful when we found them.
After one dose of medication, they seemed to be improving. Our goal is to get them into "adoption stage".
