Do any of you recal how much preparation time...r/o

you gave yourself before taking the Praxis I exams? There are 2 more test dates in my state this year...one is 4/25 (a month away) or 7/25. The nearest test site for the 4/25 date is just over an hour away so it's convenient, while the nearest test site for the 7/25 date is 5 hrs away (not convenient at all). So I'm debating getting in on the 4/25 test date but I wonder if one month is enough time to prepare for it?

I took the NTE (which is what existed before Praxis). I'd say a month should be sufficient. Best to do it immediately in case you have to do something over. I knew someone who had to take part of it twice to get their license before the beginning of a school year- quite a rush.

I would think the month would be plenty of time too. I also took the NTE, and I agree with John - do it while everything is fresh.

Thank you so much Bitsy and JohnBoy. I will register then. I suspected that I was overthinking it and that a month was suitable prep time.

I found it better to just take the blamed thing and get it over with. You either know it or you don't. I knew a girl who couldn't pass the Praxis for the life of her. I guess it eventually worked out for her because she's still teaching in the same school ten years later. Maybe she eventually passed it. I think some of her fails were because she stressed out about it so much. I took the NTE and passed the first time with no study other than just doing my college work. I've always been a reader, which helps in everything in life.

Given the choice I'd always go for sooner rather than later. I like George's approach. It's better to incorporate the knowledge needed into your daily life and routines where possible, which is both more pleasurable and less stressful.

Take the test and be done with it. Then if you want to take it again, you can drive the 5 hours. I also took the NTE years ago and then the GRE years later to get into graduate school. I bought a book on how to take the GRE, shut myself up in the bedroom and studied like crazy for about 2 weeks. I passed the test with an average score but hey, I got in grad school. Surely there is material like that out there somewhere for the Praxis.
