    Opinions on memory improvement courses?

I have a quick question about memory improvement courses. During the school year I feel that having a good memory is key to doing better in classes. I know that if I understood the material, it would make it easier. However, I would think memorizing and understanding would be able to go hand in hand. So I have been doing research on different memory improvement courses. A couple are The School of Phenomenal Memory and Dr. Brunos course. I just wanted to see if any teachers had any experience with any memory improvement courses. Thanks

I have friends who have taken memory improvement courses and they didn't really have that many good things to say about it. Many of the courses are geared toward those who are experiencing memory loss as a result of medical conditions and aging. I think they can really help in some situations. I don't know about specific doctors who teach courses though. I wish I could be of more help.

As I am getting older I have noticed that my own memory is lacking. I would love to learn more about these courses. Honestly I have never heard of either the courses that you have mentioned. I wonder if I take these courses will I be able to help my students with their understanding and memory for the topics I teach them.

I haven't heard of memory improvement courses, but it doesn't surprise me that they are geared more towards those who have medically-related memory loss. Vuman, if I were you, I'd just google memory tips and try using them.

I haven't heard of or had memory improvement courses. Sounds intriguing though. I wonder what activities or lessons make up the program. For now, I think I'll just content myself with memory enhancement techniques that can be found online or in books.

I am not familiar with memory enhancement programs either, but I see nothing wrong with taking part in such a class. I just hope they teach you strategies and mental exercises that are really effective.

I know there are tricks to remembering things but I had never heard of memory courses. I looked it up online and found several sites that do just that. Here is a free one that looks pretty interesting. http://freememorycourse.com/ I'm with BobbyC. The older I get, it seems there is more and more to remember and it's tough. I may go take this course just to see if it will help.

I have nothing against memory courses or self study techniques. However, I really don't think that memory and understanding automatically go together. I would work on the latter and then figure ways to retain the information needed.

No, I've never heard of specific courses that you can take to improve your memory, but I'm not surprised. I personally would go with the free methods unless my school included the training, as memory puzzles and the like are abundant.

I have never had memory improvement courses so I can't speak for their effectiveness. I have this impression though that these courses are focused on strategies to help you remember or recall information. If I had the chance, I think it wouldn't harm to attend a class on memory enhancement.
