My suggestion (although I have none about software) is to start asking "Why" when working on math problems. The "right" answer is the least of your concerns if you don't know WHY it's right.
In college, there are thousands just like you in your classes. Look around, form a study group, and all of you can learn to learn together. Ask yourself why, and if you can't answer the question, ask one of your study group partners why. If none of them can tell you why, then go to the professor.
I hope you find a software that works for you. Do try to study group (don't be afraid to tell the other students you are lost. Chances are, many of them are too.) If nothing else, you should hire a tutor. It is much cheaper AND more effective than taking the same course over and over again.
Best of luck!
