    Student Teaching

Throught my education in the Special Education/Elementary Education program, there have been many fears.

Through experience in various courses, I have managed to overcome many of them. However, as a 2nd semester sophomore, student teaching is a long way away, yet I have so many question and concerns. If there is anyone that would be willing to share their experience with student teaching with me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I was a teacher for nineteen years.

What do you want to know?

You may want to repost your message in "The New Teacher Forum."

This forum has several student teachers and novice teachers who would probably be more than happy to share their recent experiences with you.

    Regards,

Jodi - I have taught for 11 years and have a sp. ed. certification. I have taught 2 years self contained, 1 year resource sp. ed. and the rest has been inclusion into my reg. ed classroom. If I can be any help, please feel free to email me.

    A teacher in training

Hello, my name is Mishal and I am also a teacher in training. I have just started my studies this year. Im training to be a secondary teacher with majors in English and Drama.
I agree with Jodie in the fact that as a teacher in training I have many questions and concerns.
Did you feel that the training you gained at university adequately equipped you to teach? I feel that much of what I am learning is good knowledge but not necessarily practical skills to apply in a classroom.
Are there any tips you could provide me with regarding being in a charge of a classroom at secondary level? I have seen teachers who have not managed this age group well as they have either treated them like children by not allowing them any freedom as they have been scared of the class getting out of control, and other teachers who have given too much freedom to students and the students have taken advantage of them.
I am happy for any feedback regarding these questions. I want to learn all I can so I feel well equipped when I start practicum next year but I am also aware that alot of my learning will occur in the actual classroom.
    Thank-you for your time.
    Mishal
