    Have mercy.....

We had two of them go at it in the hallway with razor blades this week. Another was found with a weapon in school. According to state law, that means an automatic expulsion. The boy is getting two days of ISS. Why? Because the assistant principal knows the family, goes to the same church....

If we aren't going to enforce our laws, then I say repeal them.

In middle school, the key is consistency. The community this school is in has a school of choice program. Students in our "zone" can choose from among three other schools. When word gets out in the community that we overlook weapons violations, have drug lords in our school, and have razor fights going on.....WHO is going to want to send their child here?

    I surely wouldn't!!! ops:

Sorry I complain so much, y all, but this has been a disappointing year thus far....

I can't help but wonder who besides the principal is aware of these incidents? Sounds like he is putting you and your students at risk. About the time a law suit is filed for "failing to protect" another child who gets injured, your school will be in major trouble. Who knows what else might be happening in your school that you don't know about.

    My thoughts and fears exactly.....

We've already had someone busted for bringing a gun and another for bringing a knife.

The school is new (second year in operation) and already has a rough rep. We have a great deal of diversity (if you know what I refer to) and that in itself is not a bad thing, it's just that so often, that brings with it problems like this, which are more a result of poverty and social conditions than anything else.

I already worked in an inner city school a few times and do not want to have to do it again. Were I 20 years younger....maybe I could, but not now. Not anymore. Not if administration won't protect us....

    Whoa, Bill. That's scary.

I've never taught in a situation like that; don't want to either. I'm a weenie.

    Take care.

I would be soooooooooo mad if this happened in my school. Just thinking about it makes me mad.

Nothing worse than a school admin that won't enforce the rules.

I was meeting with the principal yesterday and the counselor called her with an urgent message. the counselor, who was handleing referals had a girl who was written up for insubordination. The girl was asked to move in class, and she argued with the teacher. The counselor called the principal to complain about the teacher, being unfair by asking the girl to move. I was so happy to hear our principal remind the counselor that the students were not in charge in this school; that the adults told the students what to do, and the students would do what they were told.

Apparently my principal is making a turn around. It was good to hear.

Good for your principal, Mark. Too many adults forget that lesson your principal reminded your counselor about.

I am not sure what to think about the situation at my current school. Today, three students would not settle down during a lab we were doing that involved the use of ammonia. They seemed to want to do their own thing, set their own perameters. Couldn't tolerate that today. That same vice principal came down and removed all three of them, putting all three into isolation for the rest of my classtime. He never batted an eye.

Yet, when someone brings a weapon to school.... :?

If I were a parent of a student at this school, I would be livid. I am not going to say anything. Won't have to. I am sure the community has already heard about it.
