    How totally shameful

Before students can take a book out of the library they have to pass an orientation period.

Jus finished taking my boisterous Year 9's to their orientation period. Of ALL the classes in the school this is the first one the head librarian has had to yell at EVER! AND... it's the only class that has not managed to finish he 20 questions in an hour.

How embarassing for them to be the "baddest class in the school" Mind you, they'd probably wear it like a badge!

Some more enlightening moments were finding out that the encyclopedia sets were all "wrong" (including Encyclopedia Brittanica) because they listed "Albert Einstein" under the "E" book, not the "A" book....

Ooh - we also learnt that the dictionary is in alphabetical order - just like the "ABC" song!

I just hid in the corner and pretended I didn't know them... ops:

I feel better now. Some of 9th graders (14-year olds) seem to have a similar problem- seems they never learned alphabetical order. It would be funny if it weren't sad. I thought it was just our pathetically illiterate hicks who could pull this off. Perhaps it is a failing common to the age group then... :?:

It isn't just your year 9's.

Our sixth graders seem to lack even basic social skills like being able to come into class, sit down, and get on task without tormenting one another and acting as though they've just swallowed a load of amphetamine!!!!

I've been out for the past two days, and I left my kiddos 12 worksheets of basic skills . . . reading maps, using a dictionary, reading graphs, etc. The table of contents and the index always get them.

I'll admit that I had to look at the train schedule one for a LONG time before I was able to explain it to them. I've never taken any kind of public transportation, and I was confused. ops: I hope the sub can explain it to this year's crop of kids.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! Well, if no one else taught them... at least you had the opportunity to. If it's any consolation... I did need a good laugh today.
