I might make good my escape after all....

My phone has been ringing off the hook all day. I have two interviews set up, one tomorrow and another next week. And when I consider that much of the state is on vacation this week, I have to wonder what will happen next week. 8O

    Oh boy.....

My interview today lasted in excess of an hour and a half. I spilled my innards, vented my spleen, told it all in a way I have NEVER done in an interview before. ops:

The principal, one of the most personable ones I have ever spoken to, rather than thinking me a nut case, actually identified with what I said and summarized things very simply. She saw me as frustrated where I was because I could not really teach and felt stranded in a "quagmire" of low expectations. She'd make a good shrenk, I believe.

    Interesting. Very interesting. :?

The school building was erected in 1924, has black (actually green) boards and few of the technical amenities of public schools, ie telephones in the class, televisions, smart boards, etc etc. There were computers in the media center but no media specialist.

This is a rural charter school, one established by the community it is in so the children of the community would not have to be bused an hour across the county to the closest middle school. So this is, truly, a community school, something I think this whole state and, indeed, the whole state ought to look into.

The show stopper might be that since it is a public charter school, they must follow state pay guidelines and with my having 25 years experience, I could well be too expensive for them. The principal (who also is the district officer, superintendent, etc etc) was up front about that, but told me I would be an "asset" to the school and she would see what she could do.

Like Konton, I'm leary of having any hope about this. Not sure exactly what to think..... :?

What I am becoming increasingly convinced of is that I really don't want to return to the assignment I have now.....

    No word yet, but...

they did call and talk to me this morning about those questions I asked about their use of common assessments and common planning. Turns out that common planning does not mean everything must be done the same by everyone. That's good.

A former principal of mine, the one prior to the one I have now, said some pretty nasty things about me, apparently. The principal I just interviewed with concluded that I must have made her "mad."

I just laughed and admitted that I probably did.

He then told me that the former VP at this same school assured him that I was a good teacher and that this principal was just furious at me for leaving.

A decision will be forthcoming with the next day or so....

It is really sad that a principal would attempt to blow your chances at a new position simply to satisfy a frustration.

True. Quite true. But this person has issues. Not an excuse, but an explanation. She has run off so many good people from that school, emotionally scarred a lot of kids and alienated most of the community. The school board just won't see it or, if they do, they refuse to act on it.

It may be a moot thing, anyhow.

Just got an e mail from the school system I applied to. They are asking for official transcripts and have sent me a criminal records check form.

    Dare I to hope?
