Billy bob, I like color coding too. I teach 4 sections of science, so I color them red, yellow, green and blue. I buy those colors of electrical tape at home depot and put a piece of that color tape across the spine of their log. This helps when I collect logs or when the kids lose them.

I also collect their papers in colored folders - it seemed kindof dorky at first, but it is so helpful.
Whatever you are, be a good one. -Lincoln

I hate ringbinders with a passion.
My dream is that all my students have a hard cover notebook which they can glue things into. I even supply the glue and scissors for them. It works well with my junior english classes - but for my senior classes where they have ringbinders everything is lost.
For science and Maths they also have books right up until senior school.
But english expects them to have the organisatoinal skills to keep their notes together. A big ask for classes that do not know the meaning of "please be quiet now". Heh heh

I love 3-ring binders, especially for my own lesson plans and subjects I cover. I do keep one for each class I teach, and keep a copy of everything I use in teaching that class, along with answer keys and lesson plans. That way if I ever teach the course again, I have access to lots of helpful resources. I encourage my students to do the same.

Our school system doesn't allow spiral bound notebooks anymore, because the spirals "could" be taken out and used as a weapon. To my knowledge no one has actually done that with them though. Honestly, I am suprised that students are still allowed to have three ring binders.
