    All but hired?

    Hi guys.

It's been a while since I've been here. Spent the last year in school, adjunct teaching, and working. About three months ago, I attended a number of job fairs and got some pretty good "leads." One turned out to be the best interview experience I've ever had. In fact, that principal called me back to see if I was interested in becoming a part of their faculty. I was ecstatic, of course. She said that she would be calling me back in a few weeks to start my paperwork ÐÊthey just needed to be sure the current art teacher that I would be replacing had all her paperwork in order to move on to her new administrative job (this is what I was told). So, that happened Ð let's say Ð in late March. I've stayed in contact with her through April, just telling me to stay in touch. But I am just a little anxious now.

My question is, how do I proceed at this point? I know what I would do if this were an advertising position, but this is a different world. (background: I'm a career-changer - advertising to teaching. this could be my first teaching position to complete my certification. i am in an ACP and need a job under probationery certification to complete the program. Everyone I've interviewed with knows this.)

I just don't want to be a bother/pest to any potential employers. But at the same time, I do not want to be too passive. Now, I understand that this is the end of the school year, here (TX), so educators or most likely VERY busy wrapping the year up. But after that, what do I do?

Also, I haven't put all of my eggs into one basket. I had other interviews and a new lead in a district I live in.

    Well, this turned lengthy!

I just really want this to happen and l want to do it right. Any thoughts/ advice/wisdom is greatly appreciated.

    David

I don't think it would hurt to give the administrator a phone call just to make sure that your job is still in the works. You haven't spoken to her since April and it's now late May. Yes, things may be winding down at school but one never knows when unexpected events may occur. Administrators resign. Paperwork is misplaced. The person you're replacing may have decided to not leave. It wouldn't hurt to call. A single call after about a month isn't pushy. Pushy is showing up at the school every day to ask about your job while also sending 5-6 e-mails and leaving several phone messages.

    Best wishes,

You need to know what is going on so that you an pursue other options if needed. Do call!

I am going through the exact same thing right now. I was invited for an interview with a principal, I waited a week and they called me in to give a demo lesson. After that I waited another week and they called me in to talk to the superintendent. They made me wait another agonizing week and then they called to get my references.

After 2 more weeks of this torture, I finally got the nerve to call them to follow up. I simply asked them if they needed anymore information from me. They told me that they have been busy and but assured me that they will be getting back to me about this soon.

So it is important to call. It is natural to worry that we are being too much of a nudge but there really is nothing to worry about. By calling them, you are sending them a message about how interested you are in the position. They want teachers who are interested. Good luck

Most administrators here are off for the summer and aren't available till two weeks before school starts so I'd be sure to clear up your postion before the end of the school year! You don' t want to let any oppurtunities pass you by if this one isn't 100% sure.
