I would call. What can it hurt. Be specific about the posting. Ask them when they will start interviewing for it.
Good luck!
I am changing districts at the end of the school year and I know this is the time to start interviewing. I submitted an app to a school district for a specific position back in late November, I called them in early to mid December to see if there was anything else I needed to submit and they told no and that they interview on a need to fill basis.
I am SOOOO qualified for the job (based on job description).
I am wondering when is it appropriate to call again? I think I may have given them the impression I was questioning for a job for this school year (2005-2006) when in fact I was asking about a posted job for the next school year (2006-2007).
I would be so excited to get an interview for this school but I don't want to ruin my chances by getting to....giddy....
Any advice?

People are applying for next year already? I was under the impression not to begin util Aprilish. Should I start now? I am in Maryland.
I'm in Missouri and schools start posting jobs in November for the following school year. Screening interviews begin in January with call-backs coming in February and March.
In my current school district teachers are asked if they are going to return in February and we don't sign our contracts for the next school year until late March. The other school districts in my area are the same.
I think April would be too late or at least getting in at the end of the recruitment procedure....check the websites of the school districts you want to work for...they may have job postings, applications requirements, interview schedules or at the very least the HR's phone #! Good Luck!
You need to call back. This will not be pushy. I agree that you need to make it obvious which job opening you are calling about and find out when the interviews will be taking place.
I work in a small district and applications are sent to the principals. Applicants contact the principals to set up interviews for the jobs. I have worked in larger districts where you begin screening in January with second interviews in February and March. You want to make sure you don't miss the interviews/screenings because you did not call and check.
Good Luck!

I called yesterday (1/18/2006) and they in fact have already started with their screening interviews. The lady who answered the phone took my name and was going to let the interviewers know that I was interested in the job.
Thanks for the advice...it's a good thing I called.
Hopefully I will get a call in the next couple of days!
