You say: I want to see your hands on your desk at all times. No more, no less. If he is not severely MR, he should get what you mean right away. I know teachers who have had to say this to main stream kids.

As to the touching the papers thing, do you think the other kids always wash their hands after doing anything? Not very many germs can live on paper - it;s an inhospitable environment for them. So, while it's a gross thought, don't worry about it too much.

I have gotten papers from kids with blood on them. (ick. I hand them back and ask for a re-do as it does not meet our team's minimum standards)

    child

No he is not severly MR. He is Specific Learning Disabilities

What freaks me if when he is touching and then 5 min later he asks to go to restroom

Not to sound graphic but I am hoping I dont have semen or anything on the deks or anything I touched. I guess I am paranoid even though about washing down his notebook and books he touched

I will tell him monday to keep his hands on his desk at all times
I dunno if I should contact the dad as well

Something I never understand is how I can hand out the test papers and refill to do the tests on... and when I get them back they are always so dirty. Like... thrown on the floor and stepped on for a week dirty! I can't understand how students in my class... who have kept their paper on their desk for an hour.. can hand them in so dirty.
Something that has saved me from going completely batty with seeing invisible germs is having that hand sanitiser stuff around. I use that constantly. If a kid sneezes into his hand... I will chase after him and squirt him with the hand stuff - thankfully I can get it at the $2 shoppe.
THe other thing I do in my own class is clean the desks once a week with spray and wipe. Its just something I do to feel clean within my own environment. The kids come in and say: "Miss! Your class smells of clean" I dread to think of what thier other classes must smell like then :P

    Just a few ideas

I have the kids clean my desks every now and then by spraying them with foam shaving cream - they get to play in the foam and draw pictures, and then clean my desks. Fun for everyone!
