    dress for interviews....

What is the dress now for when going on interviews to a school? I'm getting conflicting advice...skirt and blouse, but some people think a pants suit is okay.

    What did you wear?

I always wear pants b/c that is what I am comfortable in. I think first impressions are very important, and you should make yourself look professional. Pant or Skirt though I do not think matters. Just make sure everything is clean and wrinkle free and looks smart on you & is appropriate, of course.

I wore a pant suit on an interview where I know the superintendent was obsessed with dressing well & he complemented me on how I was put together.

I agree with wearing the pant suit to the interview. It looks professional and neat and can really set the tone of the interview. Not to mention, wearing a suit may help you feel more confident as well.

Always a suit pant or skirt does not matter anymore, just be sure that nothing is too short and that the colors match.

Men seem to need more help with this than women.

I have interviewed many candidates. Once a man had shorts on with a t-shirt and his chest hair was coming up out of the top of his v-neck---I am not even kidding. Another man wore loafers without socks! Impressions are part of the mix.

Men should ensure that they know how to actually tie a tie. For some reason some people do not know how to do this. No advice on the knot, but make sure it looks good. The tie should just cover the belt buckle. The belt, and you should wear a belt, should match the shoes. Socks should be dark not white. Everything should be pressed or dry cleaned. Polish your shoes. Dark colors for suits are best--black, or navy. Don't apply too much cologne. Wipe your hands off before you shake hands in case they are moist, clammy hands are a turn off for some people.

I only share these things not to be picky but to ensure everyone looks their best. I am not suggesting you won't get a job because of not doing these things, its just part of the game.
