I just took the Praxis I at a Prometric computer testing center in Harrisburg. I scored 20 points above state minimal test scores for both reading and math. Since the language component includes an essay that has to be scored, it will be 2-3 more weeks before I find out how I did in language.
I really don't anticipate any problems. One of the nice things about the Praxis is that candidates may also retake a specific test in an effort to raise their scores. Praxis allows candidates to take up to 6 tests per year.
The Praxis is really nothing to worry about as long as you practice diligently and study up on your areas of difficulty. I graduated from high school in 1977. I got my bachelor's degree in '82 and my master's in '85. With the exception of my culinary degree, I haven't set foot on a college campus in eleven years. It's been 26 years since I've taken algebra ... and I passed the math test with a healthy margin.
If an old dog like me can do this, there's no reason that any of you can't do this either.
Congratulations, David![]()

Grats to you! BTW, I find it interesting that you found out your scores immediately- that is quite cool.

The only reason I know my score is because I took an on-line test at a Promertric center. Anyone who takes an on-line test will leave knowing how he or she did on the math and reading section of the test. Since the language section includes an essay that has to be scored, I will now have to wait 2-3 weeks to find out how I did on my language test.Originally Posted by JohnBoy
Congrats! I didn't have the chutspa to take the Praxis online. Technology and I don't agree most of the time.![]()
I'm actually gearing up to take the Praxis II exam next Saturday. It's now required in Maine for certification....yay for another $160.00 out of my pocket....
That does bring up something....It is my opinion that the Feds should launch an antitrust lawsuit against Educational Testing Services for having a monopoly on testing..... After all, every district you apply to will want their very own certified genuine original and not a copy, which you will have to pay for....what a grand scam.

How much are the certified copies? That would be different than spending $160 on taking the test.

I think $75 a pop, but don't hold me to that.....

That is very pricy when transcripts from college are either free or $5!!
