    Interview questions

Can anyone help me with the answers to these questions? I just graduated and have an interview on Wednesday for a 1st grade position.

    1. What ways do you evaluate the learning that students have aquired?
    2. How do you motivate students?
    3. What steps do you take to assess a child's knowledge when the student arrives well into the school year?
    4. What do you see as the most critical element in a successful teacher?
    5. What strategies would you employ with the 'low-motivated' student?

I would appreciate any help. I'm trying to go over question that might be asked so I can be prepared. I would really like this positon.

These questions seem to connect to your personal teaching styles and philosophies and I would be as true to your techniques as possible. As a new graduate, I gather your experiences were limited to student teaching, but I am sure you have some idea of how you like to evaluate & motivate students. I just think with interviews it is important to prepare but even more important to be yourself for any sort of interview. I am far from an expert, but I think that this way you'll find a position that you may have the most success with.

Try to focus on student teaching experience as much as possible. Possible answers:

    1. You can aquire what they have learned formally and informally. Formally with tests and quizzes, and informally from homework, group work, answering questions, etc. That way you can gain more perspective than a limited view.

    2. You can motivate students by using multiple teaching techniques to keep them on task. Use a mini lesson followed by an activity - students have short attention spans and the day should be split up into teaching/activities.

    3. Find as much info as you can from the previous school file, and possibly contact the teacher to see what the student has done this year thus far.

    4. This is a personal view I think for you to figure out...but I would say a teacher that is organized and enthusiastic. An organized teacher can present material to students in a way that they will understand it by using multiple strategies, and you must be enthusiastic about what you teach. Your attitude rubs off on the students, and when you are excited, they might actually listen to what you have to say.

    5. I would keep in contach with parents to make sure the student is working at home, also find what the student enjoys doing outside of class and try to incorporate that into your classroom. Try to get the stuent involved...even be your helper for the day....sometimes we need to give these type of students tasks in which they are responsible for something.

Hope this helps....I teach high school and have no idea what they look for in a 1st grade teacher. Good luck!!!

Homework is formal assessment as well. Informal is simply asking questions to assess how much the student knows, and then adjusting to meet their needs.
I've heard that four out of every three people have trouble with fractions.
