You'll have to try different approaches and find what works, what does not work, so on. Shouldn't be too hard of a sell, really, given the way these kids today get excited about technology at that age. There's gotta be TONS of software that they'll learn from and like at the same time.

I must say, you landed a lovely position! If you wanna trade jobs some day, let me know (teaching convicted felons in a prison). No, actually I like it. But your position sounds very fresh!

    Children enjoy challenges in learning

Hi sujatha, in my experience the best way of teaching children is by challenging them to achieve something on computer and stand back and be amazed at how soon they pick up the finer nuances
    1) Paint package in windows works best : open up the paint package - ask them to make a house near a tree - tell them NOTHING ELSE, how to draw , how to paint, nothing and you will see the alacrity with which they can find use the tools, then take them once over with some tools and see them improvise
    2) open up word, give them wrong spellings and ask them to type them in and correct those with red lines below them , just tell them the use of right mouse for correcting, works well with 2nd and 3rd class students; for 1st you will need simpler spellings.
    3) About the hardware use : Ctrl + A for selecting and "del" for deleting ( I taught that to a nursery kid )
    Best wishes
    Phil
