In the area where I live the monthly salary, using a 12 month year (which most teachers use so that they get a paycheck even in the summer), is about $2500 for a new teacher, fresh out of college with no experience. If you have any graduate credits when you start, depending on the area, you could add about $90 per credit to your annual salary before dividing it into a 12 month average. If you have any experience, it varies about $1000 per year for each year of experience which the local teachers unions call "steps". Each year of experience is a "step". Locally, step 20 teachers earn about $60,000 per year or $5000 per month.
By the way, the area where I live is upstate New York, not near the city of New York in any way. The schools I have knowledge about are mostly suburban schools. City schools would probably pay a little better.
