Pre- service Training for Teachers in Higher Education

Pre-service training in teaching is important to impart systematic education in colleges and universities. Unlike primary and secondary education, tertiary education, as in South Asian countries, does not have any specific arrangement for its teachers to be trained for their profession. As most of the knowledge which a teacher of the region has, had been acquired from concepts floated in developed world ,through books and authors which lacks many ground realities of local region. A teacher needs conceptualization of realities at his work place - the instituion as such with society at its back drop. Training of a teacher at entry level with conceptualization of work environment is crucial for nurturing a good academic environment adding quality to the student output.

I think the education of the college age student would benefit greatly if their professors had some training in how to convey information to the student.

I'm going with no on this one- my opinion is that the students in higher ed are more motivated and less needy than those we have in the public secondary and elementary schools. In college my instructors ranged from very good to very bad. In either case, I was expected, and did, take charge of my own learning. College-level instructors are more "facilitators" than they are instructors anyway.

    Good facilitator

For being a good facilitator, a teacher requires to know what his student wants to know about. Teachers' cannot be asked to limit himself with class works and tutorials. In studies within the syllabus, students of higher education need marginal help only. But as for teacher he needs to promote students for building up of harmonial society and many instincts that supports growth of community. For this and in general he requires to know the background of his work place. This is quite essential before one who becomes a facilitator.......
