I sit, I stand, I lean, I walk, I kneel. I drink water and coffee and slip out to the rest room between classes.
I teach sitting down at times as a Elementary Teacher or must I stand up all day.I love drinking water so I might have to take a trip to the ladies room from time to time..How can I prevent this? What do you do when this arises? It is not healthy to hold it for long ....im a student so please excuse my sillyness!

I do the same as Bananas, although I have read of some schools that do not allow you to sit at all. Hopefully those are few and far between.

I do everything in class except stand on my head.
Ever since my first day in the classroom, I have employed the use of "MY SEAT" It's just one of the kids chairs, but they're the PERFECT height for someone as short as me. As I teach I wander around the room, but if I am doing some chalk and talk I use THE SEAT.
I can kneel on it, and kneel "tall" if i need to emphasise something, or if someone is tlaking, I sit down (kneeling). If i need ot write something on the top of the board, I stand on MY SEAT. When I do the silent reading at the start of period, I am sitting on MY SEAT.
When I am talking for a long period of time and need to rest my sore foot I kneel one leg and stand on the other, then change over as needed. BUt as I say - the chairs are perfect height for me, anyone taller wouldn't be able to do it![]()
I also go around the class and kneel down in front of kids desks if there is room, or crouch down beside them. I particularly like (at the moment) hiding out in the back of the class while the kids are working. You can see all the backs of the heads - if anyone turns around they see you there right away... and if you see anything untoward going on you can just say their name and thye get a huge fright. PLUS - the back of the room (in one of my many classrooms "love" being a floater) is the coolest area so I get the breeze there too :P )
I coulnd't imagine trying to mark the roll, or student work or somthing without being able to sit.
Besides, I reckon having my voice and position change so much adds some variety to the lesson![]()

I wander around the room, stand in the front, stand in the back, sit on the tables, sit on desks, sit on a stool, sit in my chair, sit in student desks . . . whatever I need to do in any given time.
I go to the bathroom before the kids arrive, at lunchtime, and before my last class of the day arrives. If I need to go at other times, I go between classes or have someone watch my class if it is an emergency.

I find it really interesting that you can sit on your desks. I find it interesting when I see it in American movies too.
In NZ, it is culturally insensitive to sit or stand on a desk. To put your bottom on a surface used for eating or working is wrong according to Maori culture. Same as patting kids heads. I notice in American movies guys will tousle a kids hair. Major booboo here. I can have the kids put their hands on their heads... but I can't touch their heads. Again, insensitivity. The head is tapu (sacred) and you break that if you touch anothers head.
Isn't culture around the world interesting!
Me too. If I have to go to the bathroom, I'll slip out to the staff washroom 2 seconds away from my door and be very quick--less than a minute. Mostly, the children don't even know that I'm gone. If they ask, I'll tell them. The first time every year that they find out that teachers use bathrooms, they are astounded.Originally Posted by Bananas

I stand. I pace a bit. I rarely sit (roving teacher- I don't sit at other people's desks, unless it belongs to a friend.) I never go to the restroom during class, I don't drink anything during class (I allow my students to go to the restroom sometimes, and they can have bottled water.) I do lean on a desk in one classroom I use, and sometimes daydream about having my own room.
