Teaching at Kipp schools and the hiring process

    Hi all,

I was just invited to an interview at the Kipp schools in Houston Texas. I read the interview instructions, and it said that the intervew is just part I of the whole process, and that it will last for 6 hours, including a 25 minute one on one session. These 6 hours include, group discussions, 5-minute teaching observation, writing sample..etc.
My question is, is this interview even worth the time and money? I will be flying from Florida to Houston Texas for the interview, which is very expensive around this time of the year to fly being that several places are on spring break.

Secondly, I read that teaching at a KIPP school involves a HUGE commitment from the teacher, who is required to be on call 24 hours a day for the students, and be able to teach 7am-5pm Mon-Fri. and occasional Sat.

I am asking, is there anyone out there that has undergone this process? Is it worth it?
How is it teaching at a KIPP school?

    Thank you for your responses.

I just read their description. They better pay a hell of a lot of money for that work load.

Their interview process sounds like a way to weed out all but the most motivated teachers. Good Luck, whichever way you choose.
