I am doing some Science labs, but am on this contract temporarily but want to improve one aspect- how to mark them.
What my issue is : when students are away, or skip class. I have had this recently- they really try to miss Science- it is Sc. 9 and last lab I had 11 not handed in- Science 9 - on the Hydrogen popping lab.
So now what to do? I guess an omit but some did not hand it in on time, and our new policy is not to dock late marks so I guess I will just mark it really hard if it is late. I had 3 girls leave the class as if they were sick, but know they want to avoid this chemistry part of the class. One was maybe truly sick since we looked at the guts of a pig for interest, but two more left and they definitely are my trouble students.
Not fair, since some tried to do the lab write up , but did not do so well, and will fail while they get an omit or what?
What to do about labs? I will have bio. labs in Bio. 11 coming up and I don't want to have to redo labs.
