Thread: Driver's Ed

What classification of disability are we talking about? That would make a difference in the answers you get.

I teach Developmentally Handicapped (DH) and LD kids. Our kids either wait until they are 18 to get their license, so they don't have to take Driver's Ed, or take it with the regular kids. We teachers then work with the Driver's Ed teacher and help the kids study, and read their tests to them.

Would you need driver's ed for kids who will never drive? Would you make a class on taking the public bus?

The class will be for students who will never drive. Students who have the capabilty to drive, like my son, do take the class along with the reg kids, with the tests read to them.

PART of the course will cover issues concerning city buses. The course also will cover pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, and motor vehicle (cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs) passenger safety.

That sounds like a wonderful idea! I think all of the things you are covering a good topics for these kids.
