Landed First Job as RSP teacher-Need Guidance

I am trying to plan for this new school year, and I am hoping for some pointers from the experts! I have worked RSP as an aide for 3 years. I have observed the teaching and understand the basics for RSP. However, What do you do the first few weeks? I am at a new school, and am not familiar with the students. I figured I should assess the students, since they will all have different needs, and begin to set up my teaching schedules. Any suggestions on how???

I'm sorry if this seems ignorant, but things are not always called the same thing in different countries and languages...what is RSP?
If you have three yrs experience, even if it is not with the overall responisbility for the activities, I'd say your well off.

    me too!

Me Too! I just started my first week as a resource specialist and I have already started testing students for their initials. I have a general idea but it would be helpful if someone could list a to-do list. :?

I am a certificated teacher who has been working part time in different jobs for the past 12 years (child rearing) Presently, I am looking at getting back into teaching full time and the little I know about RSP sounds attractive. Is there someone who can tell me exactly what an RSP teacher does, and what credentials are needed to become an RSP teacher. Thanks!

    Re: New RSP teacher

Well, I finished off my first year, and am sorry to say I didn't receive any help from this forum. So I am determined to help HeartPryr. This is your first year and The first thing which you probably have already done is assess your students. Arrange your groups based on their needs. Unfortunately, I always run across a problem with teachers schedules. I will adjust, only if it doesn't upset too many other teachers schedule. But I have found that the teachers will then change their schedule. Creating the lessons based on their needs are the hardest. It's like running high school classes. Each group will have different lessons. Make sure you reserve time in your schedule, a half an hour or 45 minutes, this is needed for testing future students or any other administration needs. I didn't reserve any of that time last year, and I had to test students during my lunch hour. There is so much more let me know how you're doing!!!

    RSP

An RSP teacher is a Resource Specialist. To obtain a degree, you must receive a Special Education Credential. Resource Specialists serve as Special Education Professionals who work with students who have been identified as needing services in Special Education. Some pull students out of their classes and others work in the general education teacher's classroom or they do both. They support the general education teacher, the student, and the family with modifying curriculum that the general education teacher provides. They provide support in reading, writing, spelling, comprehension, and math skills. They also serve as case managers and work with other faculty to provide information regarding Special Education (laws, instruction, techniques, etc.) I am also a new teacher. I went into teaching in a Special Education Classroom and now work as an RSP teacher and would also like to read some info. to help me find my way.
