What age, what subjects? How much pull out?
I am a Special Ed teacher in my first year.
I teach reading. I want to get advice on what to do in my resourcce classes
for warmups I have the kids read a short 2 page story and 5 or 10 comprehension and context clues questions
Then we read a story and have comp questions
That is normally what I do in class
NOW, I do not know when and when not to have students read aloud or siliently
Any ideas?

These are 7th graders...I have 3 resource classes
Class 1 has 5 students
and Class 2 and 3 have 3 students
I once subbed in a resource reading class (so this will sound trite, I'm sure), and the lesson left for me was a reading assignment. I believe the teacher said to read it in round robin fashion with the kids (either that or it was for them to read it and answer questions and I saw right away that there wouldn't be any quality output from that).
I went with the round robin where I was last in line to read. I read my passage with all the inflections that I put into reading a story to my own children and on the next go-round, I saw something amazing happen. The kids (who could barely read) began imitating me! They seemed to have a really good time reading with me.
Now that I've finished tooting my own horn, I'll let someone else with some real advice jump in.

I think it really depends on your particular students. I think the idea of doing a 'round robin' reading style is good because it engages the students differently. Perhaps one silent activity and one aloud activity each day will help you gauge which one the class should practice more often.
