I need help with a possible career change.

I am currently a second grade general studies teacher. I like having a classroom. I like planning projects and creative activities. I am not so great at helping kids meet academic goals like spelling perfectly or doing phonics. (The truth is, I don't find them important enough to focus on them as much as on the stuff I'll list below.)

Sound counter-intuitive?

I'm good at creating learning environments and on being very nurturing. I'm good at higher level thinking, like Mosaic of Thought types of reading.

I'm really good at working with difficult kids. I do well with kids with Asperger's and autism and with ADHD and other behaviorally or emotionally complex kids.

I wonder if there is a kind of school in which I could teach difficult kids, but in which the focus was less on academic goals of "achievement" and more on helping them function socially. Any thoughts on this? I'm in New Jersey.
