    Cracker Barrel anyone?

This past week I swear my wife and I have eaten there more than then at home. Even the hostess recognizes us now. LOL. My wife always gets the same thing, I have to try something new every time. I wonder if the management thinks I am attempting to try one of everything on the menu. I should consider buying stock in the company, then at least I could somewhat justify all the money I have spent there.

There's not a Cracker Barrel near us, but we tend to eat there often when we're out and about. I absolutely hate that they put meat flavorings in just about everything. Ick!!

I do love their dumplings and their fried shrimp. . . . and their salads with bleu cheese dressing! My in-laws eat out every meal every day. About the only time they'll eat at home is if they're sick or the weather is too horrible to get out of the house. They eat at Cracker Barrel all the time.

DH and I used to go to the same local restaurant every Monday night, and the waitress would have our drinks waiting for us when we arrived. She also knew that I liked everything well done, and DH ate everything plain.

Ima, I just have to ask - how can people afford to eat out every day, every meal??? And it must be really hard to find places to eat out that often that are even remotely healthly enough to do that!

MIL says that it's cheaper for the two of them to eat out than to cook . . . although I don't believe it for a minute. FIL says that because he's always on call for work that he always gets called out in the middle of her cooking, so they just go out to eat. I don't believe that either because they get in the car, go to the restaurant, order, wait, and eat without getting interrupted often at all.

I think that MIL doesn't like to cook and FIL wants to eat out. MIL is way overweight and has trouble with blood pressure and heartburn. FIL has diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol . . . not to mention that he had FIVE heart bypasses last summer. And you can't imagine how often they have "stomach bugs" as they call them.

DH tells them that it would be better for them and cheaper to eat at home, but they say no.

    Ah, well . . .

I really had to train DH when I married him. I was used to always eating at home and he was used to always eating out. He didn't even know how to work a CAN OPENER or make a sandwich when we met.

Spending time with them is interesting, too . . . you spend a good portion of the visiting time out and about at restaurants.

They constructed one across town about 3 years ago, but I've only eaten at others on road trips.... I like the dumplings too.

My FIL was the same way. When my MIL knew that she would not live very long, she taught him how to cook basic meals. Now he actually makes some very delicious meals.

I like Cracker Barrel, although so many of their meals are so high in fat and/or starches. SIGH! My dil is going to work their part time this summer in between (hopefully) job interviews. She just got her teaching certificate in SPED (cognitive) so she has a better chance in Michigan than if she was looking for ELE.

Cracker Barrel has a poor history regarding its attitude towards women, minorities, and homosexuals.

In 1992, the Cracker Barrel adopted a policy that required all employees to follow a heterosexual lifestyle. Gay employees were subject to immediate termination regardless of job performance. After many protests and boycotts, the company quietly rescinded this policy ... but all employees who had been fired were not rehired. To this day, the Cracker Barrel does not include sexual orientation as part of its non-discrimination policy.

Several lawsuits have also been filed against Cracker Barrel for racial discrimination. The lawsuits allege preferential service offered to white customers while minorities or members of mixed marriages were ignored or delayed. The lawsuits also allege the use of segregated seating as well as white servers who simply refused to wait on black customers.

Minority employees have also complained about a work environment made hostile through the use of such racially charged terms as 'spear chucking porch monkey,' 'you people,' 'ghetto' and the 'n-word.' In 2006, Cracker Barrel was forced to pay $2 million to 51 current or former employees because of its hostile work environment.

The Cracker Barrel may well indeed serve a wonderful meal ... but baby back ribs don't set too well with side portions of bigotry and intolerance.

    David,

Thanks for the info. I had heard about some of the lawsuits, I thought it was all taken care of. I guess not. Thanks again, maybe I will be able to use it to convince my wife to try something else next time. LOL
