I am glad that he came through fine. It will make for a few long days as you teach and then head to the hospital. He will look forward to seeing you, though. Will he get home physical therapy, or go to some place for PT? Hope his pain is minimal.
It's been a long day, but surgery went well, but he is experiencing a little more pain than he did with his other knee replacement. He'll be fine though and was dozing off and on in the hospital when I left. Although I felt bad about leaving him, it's very nice to be home to relax and get comfy. Going to head to bed with a book. The electric blanket is one and getting my "cocoon" nice and toasty.
It'll be busy going to school then heading to the hospital for a couple of days until he comes home.

He'll have a machine at home that moves the knee up and down, and he can increase the degrees of differentiation between straightening and bending. He'll have to use it at least 3 times a day for a minimum of 2 hours each time. He'll go to physical therapy in a couple of weeks.
Hope your daughter is doing well.
I'm glad things went well, and I hope they continues to. I'm glad you're looking out for yourself, too ;-)
Linda,
I had bi-lateral total knee replacements a year and a half ago...I had the Hiker 9000s put in (no one gets that joke). It's a tough recovery for the first couple of weeks but well worth the effort! (No more pain and duel canes!!!!)
I am one of those people who does not like visitors in the hospital. I always feel like I am supposed to entertain them while I am laying there recovering. My wife would not leave for three straight days. I had to finally get my brother-in-law to take her home and he stayed with her for 24 hours…she slept 12. Get your rest as much as possible…he’ll need you in other ways.
If I may, one piece of advice for your hubby....(he probably already knows this as this is he second new knee) get in the pool. I spent a couple hours a day walking back and forth in a pool and over a couple of week’s time...I had built up strength and flexibility. Oh, and physical therapists are all evil, mean, and rotten people! (Of course I would NOW do anything for mine…but there was a time when I wanted to kill him…every minute of our sessions! Kill! Kill! KILL!!! Oooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww!) :?
Good luck to the both of you!

Glad to hear he came through. Best wishes to you all as you proceed through recovery!

Otto, you are funny. He's done GREAT with his first knee. He had the new Oxinium knee put in both knees. His other one was 3 months ago on Dec. 27. When he first went to physical therapy at 3 weeks after surgery, they said he was doing better then than most do at 3 months. At that point his flexibility was 95 degrees, and it was about 125 when he finished PT.
I'll have to remember the Hiker 9000. He's getting these both done know because he's an avid archery hunter and usually hikes back in at least 2 miles for hunting. (If he sees even one hunter other than his partner, he says that's too many people.) They often spend two days packing game out on their backs, and his dr. said this won't be a problem with this knee. So, he's on a mission to be ready for the firsst of September. His buddies are already calling him "the bionic elk hunter." So, he'll definitely appreciate the Hiker 9000 title.
Thanks for the chuckle!
WOW! He was doing well! At three weeks I was at 85 derees...I finished PT at 120 and have increased since then.At that point his flexibility was 95 degrees, and it was about 125 when he finished PT.
I went into teaching thinking I could sit and stand at my discretion…then I got my very own classroom and for some reason…I never sit. I do run, and chase, and get out of the way a lot…I have a chair…but I never sit. :?
He should get by pretty well on the new treads. My brother is a deer hunter (bow). He tried to get me to go once…but I have a problem with putting an animal’s urine on my clothes…I know…I'm weird like that. I have yet to go deer hunting... I can say that I have never been tied in a tree waiting in the cold morning dew smelling like a beer swilling buck. 8) My wife says I should get out more…
By any chance did he get any of his x-rays? Mine are hanging in my classroom. The students love it…the aides hate it…
I was given the option of one at a time or both together…Your husband must be one tough hombre…I did them both at once because my wife (a nurse) said that I had to… 8O
For anyone considering the knee replacements…it’s not twice the pain if you do both at once…One hurts enough that the other is more of a nuisance than anything else.
Hope your hubby has a fast and uneventful recovery!

Ps…The pain was worth the life and mobility I have now.

He hasn't taken any x-rays. He's not that interested. I never thought about asking for them.
His doctor wouldn't do both knees at once. He asked about it, and after having his first one, he doesn't understand why anyone would want to do that. Different opinions, I think. Kind of like the Ford-Chevy debates!![]()

As for hunting, he doesn't believe in that "urine stuff." Thank goodness! I'd hate to have those clothes come home! He doesn't hunt a tree stand, he's a stalker and usually hikes 15-20 miles a day.
His range on the CPM tonight is -5 (yes, negative 5) to 70 degrees. It's on a slow speed.
Glad to hear your knees are doing well! I think the x-ray idea is pretty cool!
I am proud of my mom. She measured at 135 at the end of her PT. Not bad for an 84 year old!
BTW, I just got a letter from my sister in the Chicago suburbs. She and BIL love to go deer hunting. Only their version is to climb in the car, drive to the forest preserves, and count the deer. On their latest trip, they counted 77.
