This is one of those stories that reminds you that teachers are regular people. They are not better than others simply as a result of the job title. Some of us, unfortunately, are liars or just want to get attention.

I clicked on the link but I couldn't seem to find the story. Anyway, I agree with Lit203. The society has set expectations that teaching professionals should live up to. Teachers are expected to exhibit high level of professionalism. There are unwritten do's and dont's of behavior. However, I think this is understandable because teachers play a significant role in molding the minds and characters of the students.

I wasn't able to read the article, either, but from the title, it sounds pretty reprehensible. No one should ever fake any type of cancer. It's not a laughing matter!

As I can't source the original article i have no idea why this woman pretended to have cancer. She could have been emotionally disturbed or under a lot of stress. I have to assume it was something like this because most teachers don't have enough support when they get close to the edge. Perhaps she saw no other way out of her situation?

I worked with a teacher once whom everyone called a hypochondriac. She was continually sending out emails asking for other teachers to give her some of their sick leave days. I gave her two of mine before I finally wised up. When you retire, they pay you those unused sick days, so they definitely add up. Plus, they count toward your longevity and end up making you far more money than just writing a person a check would set you back. She ended up going on disability and getting paid as though she had worked for 40 years. I think she had worked only 20.

The link no longer works, but I hope the teacher lost her job over that. I am a firm believer in the old adage "what goes around comes around", and I don't think she got anything positive back from the universe for that one.
