    Extra Free Period

Woo-hoo!! My first period class isn't here today! They left at 7:00 this morning to go to the Challenger Learning Center in Hazard.

I have planning second period today--with no meeting--so that's two periods in a row.

Next Friday will be nice, too. TWO of my classes will be gone then. . . and they're my two in the middle of the day. With my two planning times, I'll only be teaching first and last periods that day.

Isn't it amazing when we get these surprises? Sometimes I lose classes to play practice and field trips. I especially like it when it comes near lunch time.

We had this twice in my last school in October. First the sophomores were away on Friday (and weekend), so I had only 1 (one) class period of seniors, and that was the first period. The schedule person placed them on Thursday between shifts so I had a free Friday... After that I was much calmer schoolwise because I could get enough rest and planning.

Then next week the juniors were on a field trip to Greece for the whole week... Only about six of us teachers were in the shift as we had the freshmen. The schedule was compressed so we only had first five class periods each. It went so smoothly (plus that was the week I gave the freshmen tests). Low stress overall.
