And yet, some people do it. I have seen some teachers take an entire grade to the mall on a "field trip" after a specious write up where they correlated the trip to economics.....I see no point in going on a field trip simply to go on a field trip
I agree with you David, the idea of a 'trip' with no tie in with curriculum makes zero sense to me, thus my distaste for the way the Art Institute trip is done. I've complained since the first one, nine years ago.
On the other hand, being about 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, we have a plethora of venues to make use of: The Art Institute from a medieval or Rennaisance pov; the Museum of Science and Industry, for science or social studies; my personal favorite for ancient history, The Field Museum. That's not including places like the Freedom Center, The Chicago Museum, Cantigny, The Lyric Opera; etc.
This is also the year we take the Middle School to Springfield, the state capitol.

I also teach a Character Development class, and I am trying to get approval to take the students to a place that has a ropes course. I dont know if it will fly (no pun intended) but I think it would be a great thing to do.
My guys also want to go to Top Hat, a local "gentelman's club." Again, I don't think the warden will let us get that one off either..............

Moe: "I know it........."
