Hi and welcome!! What a varied experience you have had in teaching. It must really keep you on your toes to work with varied grade levels instead of just oneWhat is the Baccalaureate Primay Years Program? Nice to meet you -- Leslie
I am pleased to see this forum, and looking forward to communicating with fellow educators and all supporters of learning.![]()
I have been working in various capacities for my district for 20 years; this is my 7th year in the classroom. I have spent my time working at "schools of choice" in my district, and have taught K - 4th grade, including my first year in the classroom-- 37 K - 3rd graders! This year I have 20 second graders and am helping my school implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.

Thanks for the welcome! I thrive on the challenges offered by multiage groups; it keeps me learning and growing professionally, and it is never, ever, ever, boring. The International Baccalaureate Organization started with an effort on the part of international schools (educating embassy families, etc.) to prepare students to enter universities in their home country. The primary years program serves ages 3 - 12. There is a big focus on inquiry as a format for instruction. In fact, the curriculum is built around 6 "units of inquiry" at each grade level. The goal is to prepare students to be productive citizens in a global community. I'm just starting out; I've had the beginning and intermediate training, am writing curriculum, and trying out the curriculum I've drafted. My classroom is a "demonstration room" for the rest of the staff to observe and learn from, integrating pieces of the program as they are ready. Thanks for asking

This sounds fascinating. I just spent some time perusing the website -- it looks like an outstanding program. Writing and evaluating curriculum is a great opportunity to really get at the grass roots level of education. I will look forward to learning some new ideas from youLeslie
